Acting Justly in our World

untitled

This term, in Religious Education, we are investigating how to act justly in our world. We are going to discover many different ways that we can treat people fairly so that we are making the world a better place. We know how important it is to treat people with great kindness in our school, at home and out in the wider community.

Term 3 Inquiry- Around The World

This term we are learning about all of the different countries and cultures around the world. We know that cultural experiences and the places we are from make us all different. We appreciate this diversity! To kick off the unit, the Grade 1s and 2s have been travelling around the world to four different continents: Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. We even had our very own passports to take with us! Here are a few pictures of our experience in Asia…

Library Borrowing

Hi Grade 2,

Remember to bring back your library books each Thursday. Our library session is Thursday from 9am-10am. Chisachi is a great help when it comes to recommending books that you may like. If you finish your books before our library session, don’t worry! You can go down to the library with a partner to borrow throughout the entire week. The Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun so if you would like to participate, see your classroom teacher and we will give you your log in username and password. Have fun reading!

Anne from Scotland

Last week, we were lucky enough to have a guest speaker come and visit us. Her name was Anne and she moved to Australia from Scotland when she was a teenager. Anne came to talk to us about her history, as that is what we are investigating during Inquiry this term. She told us about how strict the schools were and that when she was little, they did not have any computers, washing machines or cameras! Anne’s family did not have to go to a supermarket. The butcher, milkman and green grocer would come to her house to sell her the groceries! We were amazed! We have created a very long list of questions that we would love to ask Anne about what it was like growing up in those days. Here is a photo of Anne showing us one of the wooden toys her husband owned when he was little.

Pentecost

We have been learning about The Pentecost . We have been investigating the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit  and how they are in action in our own lives. These gifts are Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Piety, Fortitude and Respect to God. We made posters about how these gifts are present in our lives aswell as our parents lives.

Inquiry in Term 2

We are investigating what life was like in the past by looking at historical objects and listening to stories. We have been talking about what things have changed over time and brainstorming possible reasons as to why. The other day we listened to a Gramophone (an old device used to listen to music) that Fiona brought in from home. We learnt that it doesn’t need electricity to run, you need to wind it up.

We also got to listen to the story of Peter Pan on an old Record Player, which one of the Grade 1s brought in from home.

At the moment we are trying to collect lots of old objects from home that we can have a look at.

Here are some photos from our pop-up museum.

Hi everyone,
Tomorrow (18th May) we are hosting the Prayer Assembly in the Church. It is all about the Pentecost. We have brainstormed wonderings that we have, talked about what Gifts of The Holy Spirit our parents show, and written prayers together. We hope to see lots of our family and friends there tomorrow!
